Blue Screen of Death BSOD on Windows 8 1 with WiFi Adapter Intel 4965AGN DRIVER IRQL NOT LESS OR EQUAL in netwlv64 sys

Since the update wo Windows 8.1 Im getting random BSOD reporting theres an issue with DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL in netwlv64.sys.

How-I-fixed-it:
In the thread
https://communities.intel.com/message/207413#207413
theres a suggestion to use the driver NETw4v64.sys version 11.0.5.32:
http://support.toshiba.ca/support/isg/drivers/common/vista/Intel%20Wireless%20Driver-11.5.0.32.zip

Did this on Dec 4th and there were no BSOD so far :-)

Also here they suggest to use older drivers:
https://communities.intel.com/community/feeds/messages?thread=31441

Heres a little update:
Although the driver works fine without any crashes so far, it stopped me from being able to Internet Connection Sharing with my Nokia Lumia 920 because the driver does not support the FIPS profile!

Computer Laptop Tablet Smartphone does not connect to AVM FritzBox WLAN WiFi Repeater It always connects to WiFi Router with slow speed because of different passwords

I set up a AVN FritzBox 7272 to act as repeater for the WiFi of my AVM FirtzBox 7330 Router. The base router showed the repeater as connected. But my devices did not automatically Switch their WiFi to the repeater but stayed connected to the base at very low speed.

How-I-fixed-it:
I found out, that in the WiFi security settings of the repeater my network had a different password than the base WiFi. Setting it to the same Password as on the base box, devices now connected to the fastet Connection available.

How-I-fixed-it:

Sharepoint 2010 Email alert failure

So they say, always check the simple things first before you tear everything else apart.

Well, I forgot that rule and was going nuts trying to figure out why my Sharepoint 2010 alerts were no longer working after I upgraded from Sharepoint 2007.
When I created the alerts, I was getting the confirmation email, but the alerts were not working.
I have two servers, a SQL server and a web front end. My SQL server has reporting services installed but not integrated with sharepoint since that was giving me problems (more on that in the future).
I double and triple checked the timer jobs on the two servers that I had and everything looked fine.  I ran all the scripts in Powershell to make sure that the hostname of my sharepoint web front end was changed on the migrated alerts, and I found that even new alerts didnt work.

Turn out my problem was that Exchange was set to allow SMTP from my web front end, but not the SQL server. During installation, the installer told me I needed to install Sharepoint on the SQL server even though at Techmentor and the Sharepoint 2011 conference the speakers said not to.
So the first time I created an alert from SQL Reporting services on my database server, Reporting services was nice enough to give me a clear error message right on the webpage.
I needed to add my SQL server to the Exchange Server so it would be allowed to send out emails!
It looks like the alert confirmation comes out of the web front end and the alerts themselves come from the backed, in my case the SQL server.

Solution: Make sure your Exchange server is allowing all your sharepoint servers to send emails!

Computer Motherboard Components And Their Functions

Motherboard, or often we know the name mainboard, mobo, MB, or the system board is a hardware device in a computer system in the form of printed circuit board (PCB).

Its function is to connect all components of a computer. The motherboard can be regarded as the backbone (backbone) of the computer system, all components must have a computer connected to the motherboard, either directly or indirectly.

Motherboards are produced in a variety of sizes, some are made specifically for the brand of a particular system. However, most modern mobo ready made to be plugged into a wide variety of casing sizes. Mobo installed inside the casing with the facing side of the casing is easy to open, and tightened with a screw.

And this is Some functions motherboard and components :

- Socket processor. That is a place for use to place or take processor, either system socket. There is a system placing processor for Pentium processor in the past. That is slot system. Like placement for processor P3500 and the previous generation. But not all processor P3500 use this SLOT System. To all advanced processor they using placement slot system. You must notice when placing processors are. We must pay attention to compatibility processor of all pins with socket existing. Because, if there are component not matches. It will result a fatal error, like pin processors will be broke.

- Socket memory RAM, Function of memory socket is to put memory RAM on the motherboard. There are many kind of shape in memory socket. It adjusted with any type of memory that will be installed. Like when use the 2-PINNED-RAM. For SD RAM or DIMM use 168 PIN and for DDR use 184 and there also socket line DDR2 and DD3 used by mother board today.

socket floppy. This socket for connect the motherboard with floppy disk drive. Which use for insert floppy disk.

Socket IDE. Socket IDE it’s using for connecting cable between the mother board with hard disk and CD Drive.

Socket SATA. Just like socket IDE. Socket SATA use for HDD, DVD ROM, and SSD, but its have higher transfer rate than IDE Socket.

Slot AGP, accelerated graphics port (AGP) its use for transmit data from graphics to processor without going through main memory. So, this can speed up the process of data management graphics. Most motherboard today has AGP 4x bus than can operate at a frequency of 266 MHz

PCI Express. Like AGP Slot which use for as transfer data like picture to monitor. Design to replace AGP and PCI. PCI Express have faster data transfer, especially for 3D graphics.

Infor Visual Enterprise Macros

Here are some macro information for Visual Enterprise.
Macros are basically vbscript and you can get more help from the Infor website.

Here are three examples that we use all the time.

This one takes the packlist from the shipping window and sends it to Microsoft SQL reporting services to create a report in PDF format.
Filename: VMSHPENT_Print Cert.vms

Dim ie,ss
sub pause(secs)
start = now
secs = cint(secs)
while datediff("s",start,now) < secs: wend
end sub

set ie = CreateObject("InternetExplorer.Application")

ie.Navigate "http://sharepoint/reportserver?%2fVisual+Enterprise+Shop+Reports%2fSkills+Cert+for+Laser+Printers&rs:Command=Render&rs:Format=PDF&PACKLIST=" & PACKLIST_ID

ie.Height = 50
ie.Width = 500
ie.Visible = false
pause 4
Set ss = CreateObject("WScript.Shell")
ss.AppActivate "File Download"
ss.sendkeys "%o"

Im sorry if this blog chops some of this into more than one line.
Make sure the ie.Navigate is one line and then the next line is ie.Height = 50.

This next one just enters some data into a box for you.
Thats right, just one line!
filename: VMMFGWIN_Submitted to Vendor.vms

udfString1 = "Submitted to Vendor"

This one goes into a database and pulls some information about the customer and enters it into a box for you.

My Dell PC Computer Laptop Tablet is marked as shipped but UPS tracking link does not find the shipment parcel

I ordered a new tablet computer from Dell two weeks ago. The estimated date of delivery is in a few days.
I was surprised that the device was marked as shipped in the order status hompage after one week (by that time, the estimated delivery date was two weeks away). The order Status page showed a UPS tracking link, but UPS Homepage returned, they cannot find the shipment with this tracking number.
I testing the tracking link every day and after 5 days I sent an EMail to Dell asking them, why it does not work.

How-I-fixed-it:
Well, i did not really fix it, but I now know, what makes the order status page so confusing. After the device is ready for UPS to be picked up at the Dell site, its marked as shipped and the tracking link is created. While the device is on the way to Europe, UPS tracking link does not find the parcel number. In case its on a ship, this can last for a week or even longer.
UPS tracking starts to work when the shipment is scanned in Europe for the first time, which, in my case, was 3 days before the formerly estimated date of delivery. So the shipment is on time and the estimated date of delivery at the time of order was fine.

System Center 2012 Unified Installer Errors

I have been working on installing System Center 2012 on about 6 Hyper-V virtual Microsoft Server 2008 R2 servers for the last 3 or 4 days.  All along the way I kept running into problems.
Here are a few of the problems I ran into and how I fixed them.

  • Follow the Directions for WinRM to letter.  I tried set the policy in the domain group policy and the installer looks in the local policy, so I had to set it in both places.  I also tried to limit the trusted hosts with , *.mydomain.local instead of just using * and it didnt like what I entered, so I just went back to * and it worked.
  • Make sure you create a folder for every prerequisite and only download the files you need.  For most of us that will be just the x64 files.  Some files have the same name in both the x86 and x64 packages and you could end up expanding the x86 files over your x64 files and then the install will fail or hang.
  • Expand all your prerequisites.  When I downloaded all the prerequisites, I didnt expand them.  It will not let you choose the folder where your prerequisites are stored until you do this.  All of the SQL Server CU4 hotfixes will need to be expanded and the one that is 333mb will need to be expanded a second time.  For the most part if you downloaded an ISO or EXE, you will need to expand it.
  • Check your firewall on the installer PC.  My installer PC had a Symantec Firewall that was hanging up my installation.  I removed that firewall and turn the windows one off until I was done.
  • Remote Desktop can crash your Unified installer.  Every time I used remote desktop to check the install progress from home it would crash the installer. I found that I stay connected the whole time that it will be fine, but if I disconnect and then re-connect later it will kill the installer.
  • If all else fails, try manually installing the prerequisites and look for problems.  My SCCM 2012 install kept hanging up after the installation of SQL Server 2008 R2.  When I would manually run the SP1 installer it would give me an error and then fixsqlregistrykey would crash.  I had installed .NET 4.0 in advance and fixsqlregistrykey didnt like it for some reason, so removing .NET Framework 4.0 Client Profile and Microsoft .NET Framework 4 Extended seem to fix that problem.
  • Make sure your prereqs were not corrupted when they were copied to the server. While using remote desktop at some point it crashed the installer and it must have interrupted the transfer of the .NET Framework 4.0 exe to the server, because when I tried to run it manually, it failed to run.  Manually copying the exe to the sever resolved that problem.

In 2002 I was a software tester at Microsoft and tested SMS 2003 Remote Control and Network Discovery while it was in beta.  Microsoft had a policy against testing for "everything" because its hard to come up with every scenario, but it would have been nice if they had worked on this installer a little harder.  The UISetupWizard.log could have used a little more detail as well.

Solving WinRM Host connection errors in SCVMM System Center Virtual Machine Manager 2012 R2

I had a few Hyper-V 2012 R2 hosts that didnt want to talk to my VMM 2012 R2 server, so I started down the long road of tracking down the problems.  Sorry if some of this seems disjointed or out of order.  Im trying to document this all after a week of troubleshooting errors.

Here is my advice for tracking down the problems. Most are related to WinRM.

Step 1: Check the Health status of the Host
To check the Health status of a host, perform the following steps:

1. Open the VMM Console.
2. Select the Fabric view, right-click the host that’s experiencing issues and chose properties.
3. Within the host properties, select Status.
4. Select the category that has the Red exclamation to view the error details.

In my case, the third category down was WinRM that was giving me an error.

Lets start with the easy stuff.
Make sure WMI is working...
net start winmgmt
If you think the WMI repository is corrupted, you could try this:
winmgmt /salvagerepository
There is more detail on fixing WMI here:
http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/windows/en-US/8ed26d46-9994-4052-a307-5b071805aea8/wmi-corrupt-how-to-reinstallrepair

After checking WMI, I moved on to finding solutions for WinRM problems.

When troubleshooting WinRM the process is like running a simple ping test.
Type the command below at an elevated command prompt:

winrm id

This should produce output similar to below:
IdentifyResponse
    ProtocolVersion =
http://schemas.dmtf.org/wbem/wsman/1/wsman.xsd
    ProductVendor = Microsoft Corporation
    ProductVersion = OS: 6.1.7201 SP: 0.0 Stack: 2.0

If you get an error instead of the output above, perform a Quick Configuration of WinRM:
winrm qc

You should see something like this below. Answer ‘Yes’ to any questions.
WinRM already is set up to receive requests on this machine.
WinRM is not set up to allow remote access to this machine for management.

The following changes must be made:
Enable the WinRM firewall exception.
Make these changes [y/n]?
WinRM has been updated for remote management.
WinRM firewall exception enabled.

WinRM can now be tested again
winrm id

If "winrm qc" fails with this error:
WSManFault Message = The system cannot find the file specified.
Error number: -2147024894 0x80070002

Then try this:

sc config WinRM start= delayed-auto
net start WinRM
winrm create winrm/config/listener
Address=*+Transport=HTTP
netsh firewall add portopening TCP 80 "Windows Remote Management"

Sources:
Articles for configuring the WINRM service manually:
http://adminontherun.blogspot.com/2011/07/winrm-qc-fails-with.html
Installation and Configuration for Windows Remote Management
http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa384372(VS.85).aspx

I checked my hosts and WinRM seemed to be running fine, but this article went into more detail:
How to troubleshoot the “Needs Attention” and “Not Responding” host status in System Center 2012 Virtual Machine Manager http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2742246

Highlights from that Knowledge Base Article are as follows:
  • Use the Virtual Machine Manager Configuration Analyzer (VMMCA)
  • Verify the VMM service account is a member of the local administrators group on the host
  • Check for corrupted performance counters
  • Check the Svchost.exe process of the Windows Remote Management service
This step is related to the error 0x8033803b found in the VMM Console and more detail can be found here:
  • Increase the default values for WinRM (Shown in this code sample)
winrm set winrm/config @{MaxTimeoutms = "1800000"}
winrm set winrm/config/Service @{MaxConcurrentOperationsPerUser="400"}
net stop winrm
Y
net start winrm
net start scvmmagent

I also found some reference to SPN issues.

Issue: The Service Principal Names (SPNs) that VMM requires were not correctly registered when the VMM management server was set up on the specified server. This is a known issue in System Center 2012 Virtual Machine Manager.

Impact: The VMM console may not be able to connect to the VMM management server and/or deploying a Hyper-V host to a bare-metal computer may not work.

Resolution: Manually add the SPNs that are required by VMM by running the following commands as an administrator at an elevated command prompt:

setspn -A SCVMM/yourmachine -U domainaccount
setspn -A SCVMM/yourmachine.fqdn.com -U domainaccount

Still having SPN Problems?
Have you done the items below? These need to be done as a domain admin.
The Service Principal Name (SPN) could not be registered in Active Directory Domain Services (AD DS) for the VMM management server.
  • Use setspn.exe to create SPN for vmmserver using following command "C:Windowssystem32setspn.exe  -S SCVMM/hostname.domain accoutname"
  • Add SPN values to following registry key "SoftwareMicrosoftMicrosoft System Center Virtual Machine Manager ServerSetupVmmServicePrincipalNames"
  • Run "C:Program FilesMicrosoft System Center 2012Virtual Machine ManagersetupConfigureSCPTool.exe -install" to configure SCP.
Next on the Agenda, see if Group Policy can help with fixing Powershell Remoting.
Enable Powershell Remoting via Group Policy
http://www.briantist.com/how-to/powershell-remoting-group-policy/

After all that it turns out that our problem was due to a certificate error with PowerShell on the host servers.  We fixed it by removing the certificate from PowerShell on those servers.

If your getting this error, "The WinRM client received an HTTP server error status (500)", then these two articles should help.

I followed the steps described in the very helpful tutorial Jose Carlos Molina Fraticelli (http://ntrs.nasa.gov/archive/nasa/casi.ntrs.nasa.gov/20120014980_2012014792.pdf), but when i wanted to run the model, i got a Simulink error message, that a file called "modelname_sfun.bat" was not found.

How-I-fixed-it:

The problem was caused by an incorrect setup of the C-Compilers on my system. I had multiple versions of Visual Studio installed on my computer and it seems like after a couple of update steps of Visual Studio and Matlab, Matlab got confused.
I had to rerun "mex -setup" from the Matlab command line and selected the Compiler Microsoft Visual C++ 2010 in C:Program Files (x86)Microsoft Visual Studio 10.0
After that, the model compiled OK and i was able to run it.

SQLCLR SQL Server UDF SP binary parameter is cut after 8000 Bytes

I created an SQLCLR C# Stored Procedure which expects a paramter as large byte[] and returns the result in a large byte[].

Using the SQLBinary class as default, i run into the problem that the parameter was cut after 8000 Bytes.

How-i-fixed-it:
I found the right hints here:
http://stackoverflow.com/questions/840552/clr-udf-returning-varbinarymax

SqlBinary is VARBINARY(8000) while the default for SqlBytes is VARBINARY(MAX)

I found two ways to overcome the 8000 Bytes limit:

For the large return value i used:
SqlDataRecord record = new SqlDataRecord(
new SqlMetaData("Data", SqlDbType.VarBinary, -1));

For the input Parameter i used:
SqlBytes roiBytes

Do not use registerfly com for hosting

I moved two domains to registerfly.com to setup hosting. One failed to work from day one, they moved it to a new server after doing nothing for 4 or 5 days. Then about 2 weeks later the site went down again along with another one of my domains. After 7 days both sites were still down. I moved the sites to godaddy.com and requested a cancel. They cancelled my domains and "said" that there would be a refund. Its been 13 days and I still do not have my money back.

These people are crooks and idiots. Do not do hosting buisness with them.

The domain and DNS managment that I have had with them for years has been fine, just the hosting is screwed.

In the end it took me over 2 months and 6 ticket updates to get my refund!

How to Bridge a Clear Clearwire WiMax Modem to work with an Enterprise Firewall and a static IP

Guess what, you can’t.  Return the modem and cancel your service.
Ok, to be honest, you can get it to work with a firewall without going into a Bridged mode, but forget using VPN, and for most people that is the entire point of having a firewall that can be bridged.
I have a Watchguard Firebox that can take a DHCP address from the Clear Series G modem, but I couldn’t get remote management to work or site to site VPN tunnels.
I spent almost 3 weeks screwing around with this and got NOWHERE!  Every time you need to change anything it takes 2-4 days.  Need a static IP? 2-4 days.  Need to replace a dead modem, 2-4 days.  There is no way I can keep a business running if I have to wait 4 days every time there is a problem or a change!
First they sent me a home modem with no support for bridging, then I read on the forums that you could get a USB “Mobile” device and then plug that into a CradlePoint router (I paid $150 for the CBR400 on ebay)
I wish that the devices that Clear sold were as well built as this Cradlepoint, It’s a well built product.
It took Clear 4 days to activate that Modem and then it still wouldn’t link to my static IP!  When I tried to link the static IP on the Clear website it said that the device belonged to someone else, but the real error was that the Home USB devices do not support static IPs,  so much for bridging with the Cradlepoint!
It’s “Clear” that the Office Pro Internet they sell is nothing more that consumer grade internet re-branded.  They even told me they could setup direct billing to my accounting department and when I got the modem in the mail, it wouldn’t work until I gave them a credit card!
At this point I am livid and I call 888-888-3113 so that I can talk to Level II support.  I get disconnected the first time I call, and then I get transferred 5 times over 23 minutes before I get to a Level II support person who tell me right off the bat that they do not support bridging.  Done, over, that’s it.  No conversation about alternatives, your just SOL and I will open a ticket for you now to cancel your account.  Great...
This is the worst support I have EVER had on ANYTHING!  No one you speak to on the phone will be located in the United States as far as I can tell.  Half the time I don’t think they even understand what I ‘m saying.  For as often as I was disconnected, I think they prefer to dump anyone who has anything other than a simple question.
More notes of interest:
  • The speed I was getting with 5 full bars was about 6mb down and 1mb up.
  • I never got the “Professional Class Support” they list under Office Pro Internet
  • They always told me they would email me information when I signed up and I never got anything.  Later I found that it all went to my clear.com email box (They use Google’s Gmail)

Tweaking the Dell Mini 9

I got my wife a Dell Mini 9 on Valentines Day and being a computer geek I was really interested in seeing how well this worked since it was a netbook.

I went to the Dell outlet site for $220 and got a model with Windows XP Home and a 8GB Solid State Drive (SSD).

After I got it I found out what a mistake that was. It left me with only 1GB free and after installing all the security updates, IE7, and Media Player 11, there was no disk space left! There was not even enough room to install Adobe Acrobat Reader!

My solution for this problem was to buy a 16GB SDHC card from Newegg.com for $24 and I put that in the SD slot and used it as my Drive D. I then proceeded to uninstall everything that I could and re-install the apps using the custom option to choose the D: drive for the installation location. This didnt work for everything. Office still installs some things on the c: drive and the Windows Live tools (Mail, Messenger, etc) do not let me choose where to install. Im running Office 2007 and Adobe Acrobat Reader from the SD card and they run great.

I freed up the most room by moving my page file from the c: drive to the d: drive. I have 1GB of memory so the page file was taking up 1.5GB of my very small c: drive. I couldnt seem to delete the page file from the c: drive after I created one on the D: drive, so I just made it small, 128MB. I have to look into this more. If you do this make sure you do it from the System settings, you cant just move the file.

If I was going to do this again I would have got the 16GB SSD, Dell doesnt offer a 160GB hard drive like some others like Acer. Ill take a Dell over an Acer any day at any price.

The bottom line on the Dell Mini 9 is that it works great. It was a great choice. I love how small and light it is. Even the charger is small; its almost like a cell phone charger. My kids can play their internet games on it (Club Penguin and Webkins) and my son likes to watch episodes of Star Wars Clone Wars on it streamed from the cartoon network website.

If your thinking about a Dell Mini netbook, do it, but make sure you get a 16GB SSD and order a 16GB SD card to go with it.

Windows 8 Crash BlueScreen BSOD using Internet Connection Sharing Tethering with Nokia Lumia 920 WP8 smartphone

Today i used the Internet sharing function on my Nokia Lumia 920 WP8 phone to browse the web from my Windows 8 laptop computer (Dell M1330, Windows 8 64bit).
A few seconds after opening the Internet Explorer 10, my PC showed the Blue Screen Error BSOD  (The error is Driver_IRQL_Not_Less_Or_Equal, caused by netwlv64.sys) and rebooted. This was repeatable, rebooting both devices did not help.

How-I-fixed-it:
I found the right hint here:
http://gadgets.itwriting.com/1986-fixing-blue-screen-using-internet-connection-sharing-in-windows-phone-8.html

Im just citing this solution here:

Reboot, and before you connect to the Lumia 920 WLAN (or before it crashes), view the properties of the wireless connection. Click Advanced, and enable Federal Information Processing Standards (FIPS) for the connection. That worked for me and i did not see the BSOD again.

Visual Studio does not auto increment assembly build numbers ProductVersion AssemblyVersion AssemblyInfo

I wanted Visual Studio to auto-increment the version number of my assembly for every build.
In AssemblyInfo.cs I changed this line to be:
[assembly: AssemblyVersion("1.0.0.*")]
but then my Assembly ProductVersion was "1.0.0.*"

How-I-fixed-it:
I commented out the line
//[assembly: AssemblyFileVersion("1.0.0.*")]
in AssemblyInfo.cs.
My version number was then like expected  e.g. "1.0.0.123456" and was incremented every time i changed my code and re-built the project.

I found the right hints here: http://razorleaf.com/2010/01/auto-incrementing-visual-studio

Citing Paul Luc:
While it’s true that you can edit assembly version information via the IDE, you must first remove the AssemblyFileVersion attribute from the AssemblyInfo.cs file in order for Visual Studio to apply auto-incrementing. Simply clearing the field values for the assembly file version via the IDE will result in a format-related exception.

Windows 7 chm HTML help file problem

Today i received an zipped helpfile. Unzipping it returned 3 files:
*.dat
*.kzh
*.chm

I opened the .chm help file, but all i saw was the index list of help topics. The content window only had the message "navigation to the webpage was canceled".

How i fixed it:
If you trust the sender of the chm-file (they can contain malware!) unzip the files to a directory, do a right-click on the .chm-file and select properties. On the lower end of the tab it tells you, that the file comes from another computer and is a potential security risk. You can now "Allow" Windows to open the file by clicking the button and select OK. After doing this i opened the chm file and everything was displayed fine.

3CX VoIP System

I have been testing out the 3CX VoIP system for windows over the last 2 weeks.
I would have to say that I like it very much.
I tried out Asterisk, but there were just to many risks with that and lots of reading to do.

I like that so many things are already configured and all you have to do is run a wizard.
I also like that it runs on Windows and that I dont have to mess with Linux.
I am a former SGI IRIX administrator, but its been years and I have forgot most of that.

I took me 2 days, but I figured out how to make my inter-tel 8622 VoIP phone work with 3CX in SIP mode. (I posted my work on the forum at 3CX)
Its kind of limited, so I might still sell the 8622 on ebay and just get a Polycom Soundstream IP 330. That phone looks the best to me for the job. Price is around $119 and it has two ports so that I dont need a switch at every desk.

Interfacing the 3CX with Exchange 2007 UM was easy! I had it done in about 15 minutes.
The only step they left out was creating a SMTP connector so that the UM features can send the Hub Transport (on the same server!) the voicemails and faxes. (Look in the Event viewer if you dont get your voicemails)

Im going to double the memory in my Exchange Server from 8GB to 16GB since its almost maxed (The 8GB) at 125 mailboxes and now Im going to add UM to all that!

I have a PRI that runs over a T1 to my Inter-tel system and Im wondering if I can replace that with a SIP VoIP trunk and skip the PRI and gatway. I have comcast with a 20MB connection. Anyone else try this? I need to find out what our real usage is. What if we only use 25% of that T1???

German Umlauts ä ö ü ß corrupt in HTML Mails sent with Outlook 2013 and OXtender 2 for OpenXchange

Today i noticed that HTML Mails I sent from Outlook 2013 looked like this on the receiver side:

ffentliche bereinstimmung mte sein

The german umlauts (special characters)  were somehow misinterpreted as non-printable characters.

The original text was:
"Öffentliche Übereinstimmung müßte sein"

How-I-fixed-it:

Looking at the raw mail source content i recognized, there was a lot of css-stuff in mail which seemed to be added by Outlook automatically.
osoft-com:office:office" xmlns:w=3D"urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:word" =
xmlns:m=3D"http://schemas.microsoft.com/office/2004/12/omml" xmlns=3D"http:=

link=3D"#954F72">
=EF=BF=
=BDffentliche =EF=BF=BDbereinstimmung m=EF=BF=BD=EF=BF=BDte sein=
-->
I found out, that theres an option in Outlook to tell it to use CSS for formatting or not.

I disabled this option and my HTML mails look OK now.

Outlook 2013 crashes on startup every time after calendar publishing to WebDAV Safe Mode does also not work Profile corrupt after calendar publishing

Laptop Dell Vostro 3500 turns itself off without prior notification because of system becoming too warm

One day my wifes Dell Vostro 3500 Laptops started to turn itself off when in use without any warning message or notification. Turning it on again it worked for a while an then powered off again without any hint where the problem may be caused by.

How-i-fixed-it:
I turned out to be caused by the fan assembly air outlet being full of dust so that no air was going through it any more to cool down the system. To get to it to clean it means disassembling the whole system but following the procedure well described in the service Manual under "
Removing the Heat Sink and Fan Assembly",
it took me about an hour to get the job done and since that, the system is running fine again.

Heres the link to the Dell Vostro 3500 Service Manual:

Update: Had to clean it again Apr. 2014. Seems like it need yearly maintenance... Here are some images how the fan assembly looked like:

Automating Windows Azure Active Directory Module for Powershell Connections Office 365

I have been working on a PowerShell script to automated the Windows Azure Active Directory Module for Powershell Connection and login.

I started by exporting my password to a file so that powershell could load that from my script.

Then I created this powershell script to make the connection.  At the bottom I added some powershell to tell us when the last DirSync was run too.  This is set to utc by default, so I also convert that to Local Time.

 $pass = get-content C:cred.txt | convertto-securestring

$cred = new-object -typename System.Management.Automation.PSCredential -argumentlist "superadmin@yourcompany.onmicrosoft.com",$pass

$Session = New-PSSession -ConfigurationName Microsoft.Exchange -ConnectionUri https://ps.outlook.com/powershell -Credential $cred -Authentication:Basic -AllowRedirection

Import-PSSession $Session | Out-String

Connect-MsolService -Credential $cred | Out-String

echo "Last Dir Sync Completed at:"

$DATEutc = Get-MSOLCompanyInformation | select -expand LastDir*

HOW TO FIX THE BSOD
Solution #1 - (Easy Fix) Delete the Font Cache
Delete c:WindowsSystem32FNTCACHE.DAT
Something in that file is triggering the BSOD.
Delete that file and the system will reboot without a bsod.
FNTCACHE.DAT will be recreated upon reboot, so there is no risk to deleting it.
http://www.reddit.com/r/sysadmin/comments/2dkc3g/warning_kb2976897_kb2982791_and_kb2970228_causing/cjqfl1y

Solution #2 - Uninstall Update KB2982791
When the BSOD (0x00000050) happens it will try to do a repair.  After that fails, click the link that says:

View Advanced Options for System recovery and support

Login to the recover console

Open the Command Prompt

Remove KB2982791 using DISM using the following directions:
I have included the package name for Win7 x64.

If you need to find your package name, here is the command:

DISM.exe /image:d: /get-packages

If you get an error, you might still find the package name in dism.log.  Save the log from x:windowslogsDISMdism.log to a thumb drive if you need to find the package name using notepad on another PC.

I found this package name in the log file by searching the log for 2982791:

Package_for_KB2982791~31bf3856ad364e35~amd64~~6.1.1.1

KB2976897 was not installed on this PC

My windows 8.1 x64 PC has this package:

Package_for_KB2982791~31bf3856ad364e35~amd64~~6.3.1.3

dism /image:d: /remove-package /packagename:Package_for_KB2982791~31bf3856ad364e35~amd64~~6.1.1.1 /scratchdir:d: emp

Now your PC should boot.

Now run hotfix KB2908190 to fix the font problems linked to the BSOD.

http://hotfixv4.microsoft.com/Windows%207/Windows%20Server2008%20R2%20SP1/sp2/Fix463450/7600/free/470342_intl_x64_zip.exe

wusa /uninstall /kb:2982791 doesn’t work in the recovery console, you have to use DISM.
